The Ekiti State commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Hon Kehinde Odebunmi has charged Ekiti people to embrace mushroom farming as one of those means wealth could be created. The commissioner gave this advise while flagging off Mushroom Seminar on Thursday, 30th of July 2013, at Land and Housing Cooperative Building, in Ado Ekiti.
Welcoming the participants the chairman of the event, who is also one of the Mushroom farmers in Ekiti, Chf. Senator CK Awoyelu admonished the participants to pay unalloyed attention to what they will be taught. He said the participants after the training would automatically be inducted into the Mushroom Association of Nigeria.
He thanked the resource person, and facilitator of the training, Dr. Idowu Olufunmilayo Omoniyi for bringing the training into the state.
The Erinjiyan Ekiti High Chief finally prayed that the purpose of the training would benefit all the participants.
Flagging off the seminar, Odebunmi took time to extolled the virtues of Senator CK Awoyelu. He praised him for the love he has for agriculture in general, and mushroom farming in particular.
The commissioner equally thanked, and appreciated the participants for the interest shown to be trained as Mushroom farmers. He said; "it is no news that this administration recognizes farmers as partners in progress and delivery of Ekiti project; hence, the relevance of this training at this point in time and my presence at this historic occasion.
" The present Administration has given Agriculture due prominence. In fact, agriculture is one of the 6 cardinal programmes of this Government. I also make bold to say that Government intends to embark on massive production of arable and cash crops to boost the economy of the state. "
The commissioner further stressed that farmers in Ekiti will be encouraged in order to increase their productivities and improve on their income. He also said conducive environment is being provided for private investors who are interested in Farm Business Enterprise.
The commissioner however enjoyed the youths to take advantage of the enabling environment and feel encouraged to go into various agricultural value chain wish will in turn minimize the temptation of their involving in criminal acts which will thence stimulate increase in food production and wealth creation.
Closing his remark, the commissioner conveyed the appreciation of the state Government to the Mushroom Association of Nigeria for contributing positively to this Administration by organizing the seminar, and requested for continuous robust support from all other commodities Famers Associations in the State as well.
"It is the hope of Government that all commodities Associations would come under the same umbrella to derive maximum benefit from intervention programme of government and development partners." Odebunmi said. He therefore declared the seminar opened.
