Ekiti senators back pro-Fayose PDP exco faction
Members of the Senate from Ekiti State, have declared support for Idowu Faleye-led State Executive Committee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Ekiti, calling on the National Working Committee to wade into the factional crisis in the state.
The Senators, Duro Faseyi, Fatimat Raji-Rasak and ABiodun Olujimi made their position known in a joint statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Monday.
Faleye, purportedly stepped down as Acting PDP State Chairman on May 13, following pressure from members of the State Working Committee. He later refuted claims that he resigned from his position.
In a counter move, he presided over a SEC meeting on July 31, which suspended the factional Acting Chairman, Mr. Tunde Olatunde; State Secretary, Tope Aluko; Auditor, Tunji Olanrewaju; Woman Leader, Busola Oyebode and Assistant Secretary, Mr Femi Esan.
The senators said, “What is happening in the state chapter of the PDP is an internal party affair which should not be seen as a crack within the party in the state, hence the position of the senators to set the records straight.
“The PDP in Ekiti State remains a formidable chapter in Nigeria and we must continue to work together to sustain the trend at all situations.
“Therefore efforts must be on top gear to ensure that all factions are brought together to move the Party forward.”
The Senators called on the Olatunde-led faction to allow peace to reign, saying what PDP needed is unity and we must all work in unison to fight our common enemies at all times.
They called on the National Executive Working Committee of the PDP to as a matter of urgency wade into the crisis.
“It is high time we worked together because the task ahead is enormous and any singular division could jeopardise the collective efforts of taking over our position as a party in the future elections.”
The Senators commended Governor Ayodele Fayose for his leadership style and called on the people to continue to support his government at all times.
