The Elders and Local Government Party Chairmen of the Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) formally met today and has viewed critically the ongoing crisis in the State PDP especially the purported emergence of Mr Olatunde Olatunde as the Chairman of a faction that claimed to have replaced the authentic party Exco led by Chief Idowu Faleye as the State Chairman of our party, PDP.
It will be recalled that the Elders had intervened to prevent factionalisation of our great party through meetings it called to resolve the grievances telling the Olatunde group to back down in the interest of our party.
At the said meetings, Mr Olatunde and other aggrieved members were assured of the Elders' ability to resolve their grievances but at the same time were told in strong terms that they (Olatunde & Co) do not have the power to remove Chief Idowu Faleye, a NEC member of the party.
The Elders, LG party chairmen and the State Executive Committee (SEC) of our party at no time met to endorse the purported Olatunde – led exco.
The meeting is surprised at the recent newspaper publications of a press conference held by the Olatunde group holding to its earlier stand.
The meeting have viewed the recent actions of Olatunde Olatunde, Dr TKO Aluko and the group members as affront to the party authority, very treacherous and barbaric, suggesting that they are being financed by the APC and other external forces purposely to distablised our party.
The party will apply the necessary sanction against them very soon because we want a united and disciplined party in Ekiti State. The meeting called on the State Party Chairman, Chief Idowu Faleye to call a meeting of the SEC to take the necessary action against Olatunde, Aluko and others in the group.
The meeting hereby resolved that the only exco known to them and to the numerous members of PDP in Ekiti State is the Idowu Faleye- led exco, and that the Olatunde- led exco is illegal. The Elders and LG Party Chairmen therefore expressed their confidence in Chief Idowu Faleye – led exco
.
The Elders and the LG party Chairmen also affirmed its support to the State Governor, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose as leader of the party, commending his leadership style which brought victory to our party at the last general election.
The meeting also called for transparent primary to choose chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the local government election, saying that the party is fully prepared to promote internal democracy and called on the leaders at the various levels to shun any form of imposition or adoption of any candidate.
The modalities for the forthcoming local government election will be released by the party in due course.
